| The leitmotif in Montuori’s painting is the depiction of animals in dramatic and often drastic sceneries.
The central work of the exhibition references a biblical motif of Noah’s Ark: the ark bursts asunder in the middle of an erupted seascape. All kinds of animals flee the ship and like the raft of the Medusa, the figures start to devour each other. The dynamic painting and the gestural ductus is breaking away from the chaos of the classical composition. There is nothing such as order anymore, the ark breaks into countless pieces and the animals almost seem to melt which each other whilst fighting for survival. |
